Cimmy and Baird Page 3

“I understand mom.” Bear rubbed noses with each of them again and they kissed and hugged their goodbyes and faded into the air.

Torre smiled. “Bear there is one other thing.”

Bear became nervous, afraid Torre might make him leave.

“No Bear, you never have to leave. You are one of the pure of heart. I would like to give you a name if you would accept that from me.” With that Torre bowed his head.

“Of..of.. course,” Bear stuttered. He was willing to accept anything from this man who was so magical and had helped saved his life.

A wand appeared in Torre’s hand and he touched each of Bear’s shoulders with it. “From here on, you shall be called Baird the brave and magical.”

Bear smiled and kneeled as best he could. “Rise, Baird the Brave. You never have to kneel to anyone.” Then Torre turned and began to walk.

Baird began to cry with a joy he had never felt. Though he had never thought about having a name, this made him feel more powerful and alive than he ever had. A name, a real name…and Torre said it was a brave and magical one. Cimmy felt delighted at Baird’s new name. They hugged one another close, rubbing noses and knowing this was meant to be.

“Time to go with the others, Cimmy and Baird.”

Both were lost in awe of Torre but felt joy to follow him.

With honey jar in paw, Baird and Cimmy followed the crowd to the big tree and spent the rest of their days playing, frolicking, eating and sleeping. Baird often held Cimmy in his paws, licking him as Cimmy made funny faces while grooming and licking Baird. The other animals laughed and knew about the love Cimmy and Baird shared and the healing power of Cimmy’s tears. The strength of their love became a legend and soon others would be looking for their help. There were other adventures to tell, but that is for another time and place.

One day Torre rushed up to Baird and Cimmy saying “Come quick” I need your help.” (to be continued)...

  Endless Need

Cimmy and Baird rushed to follow Torre, knowing if he called upon them it must be serious, and they were more than happy to assist. In fact, they had been wanting to help him after he had saved them.

“Follow me, “Torre insisted urgently, and they ran through the forest. Then Torre gathered them into his arms and they vanished into another place outside of the magical glen. It felt like they were being carried inside a great storm.

When they landed, they were outside a dirty old industrial area with a rusted, chain link fence between them and the buildings. In one of the buildings, they spotted movement. Torre covered their eyes and showed them the inside as he saw it. They saw animals chained up in filthy conditions, tortured, unloved with desperate eyes unable to cry any more. Children, dirty and starving wearing barely nothing being made to work on old filthy machines. Their faces showed only despair and toil. Animal and children hybrids, being made to work and push big levers. There was nothing but pain and sorrow in that building.

“We must save them.” Torre stated.

“You can do anything, you are so powerful, why do you need us.” Cimmy replied

“This building is protected by an ancient magic, a magic older and more powerful than the beginnings of my cycle of creation. It takes the combined strength of powerful magic to defeat it. One of my own kind is trapped in there. I have called upon others of my kind, but they do not hear me. I fear something has happened to them. You two do not realize how strong your magic is. I have not encouraged you to build it as you need rest, but you are masters and now is the time to bring forth your magic. We must go back to the glen to prepare. If they can trap a master creator, they can get to our forest.” He once again encircled them and took them back to the magical glen.

Cimmy wondered what he could do to help a man so vast and powerful and what kind of magic Torre thought he had, but he vowed that whatever it took he would help this man who had saved his best friend Baird.
